I received this hutch from my mom when we moved into our new home last year. It was the same hutch from the home I grew up in. I love my hutch but I felt like it needed a little makeover. I wanted something new and custom and I knew I could do it myself! I love how it turned out so much I am going to makeover my dining room table and chairs so they match.
After the Makeover
I added a splash of blue inside and I stained the counter top part to add a little more dimension. I didn't want the hutch to be all white!
I really like the rustic, aged look that came out when I sanded and stained the wood. It gives it so much more character.
I shopped around for days to try to find an affordable backsplash and I could not find one that was inexpensive AND easy to install. So I decided to take glass stones and glue them on with clear silicone one by one. I absolutely love how it turned out!
I also added new hardware to make the entire piece brand new.
Can't forget about the hinges! That was a little bit of a headache since the old screw holes did not line up with the holes needed for the new hinges. Oh and then of course the drill dies on me when I am halfway done with the first door.
